Cesis Castle Choir

Cēsu Pils koris (Cesis Castle Choir) was founded in 1995 by Andris Veismanis. Since 1997 Marika Austruma has been the choir's artistic manager and conductor (she also is one of the conductors of biggest professional choir in Latvia, The State Choir Latvia). Cesis Castle Choir has about 30 active singers, all of them passionate amateur choral singers.

Cesis Castle Choir is actively involved in the cultural life of its home town, Cesis, as well as in the activities of the wider choral society in Latvia. In summer 2013 the choir was amongst the best Latvian choirs that participated in the 25th Latvian Song Festival Choral contest Final competition, and was proud to achieve the high 11th place right behind the world-famous Latvian choirs Kamēr..., Balsis, and other well-known acts.

Cesis Castle Choir most recent achievements are:

• 3rd Place in Folk music category in 51. Internationaler Chorwettbewerb Spittal, Austria (July, 2014);
• Gold Medal and 1st Place in Mixed Choirs Category in the 2nd International Gdansk Choir Festival, Poland (February, 2013);
• 3rd Place in the International May Choir Competition Prof. Georgi Dimitrov in Varna, Bulgaria (May, 2012).

The performances of the Cesis Castle Choir vary from renaissance to contemporary music. Our most significant performances include Te Deum by R.Dubra, Requiem by V.A.Mozart, Nelson Mass by J.Haydn, opera Orpheus by K.V.Gluck, and others. Every season, the choir prepares several concert programmes, and performs these to the local public as well as participates in international contests: Tallin 2007, Florilege Vocal de Tours 2005 etc.
